Pawsitive thoughts card

Hello. I hope you are well. I can’t believe summer is over. It’s back to school this week and Autumn is here. I love watching the trees change to beautiful colours but will miss the light evenings.

I am just popping by with a quick card I made today. It was s request from a friend who wanted a card to give someone who was collecting some important results this week. She asked for a cat and the colour purple.

I knew the My favorite Things set ‘meow mix’ had the perfect sentiment. I started by stamping one of the cute cats and a flower from the set and coloured them using copic markers. I then cut them out with my scan and cut.

Next I took a card base and masked off a portion of the card using purple tape so I could use my Distress Oxide inks to blend the purple and pink area. I then Spitzed it with my Tim Holtz water sprayer to get a distressed look to add some texture and interest, using a paper towel on top to soak up the excess water.

To finish the card I stamped the sentiment along the edge of the inked area and adhered the cat and flower. I used a Copic C00 pen under the images to ground them.

I hope you like the card.

Take care for now.

Katrina

Clean and simple card

Hello. I hope you are having a great week so far.

Today I am sharing this clean and simple card using a cute new stamp set from Hero Arts called ‘foam animals.’

I started by stamping the foam cat on to a piece of xpress it blending card using Memento tuxedo black ink.

I also stamped the image again on a post it note and cut this out to make a mask.

I then placed the mask over the stamped cat foam image and then stamped the cup over it to make the foam sit on the cup.

I then coloured the image with copic markers and cut it out with my scan and cut.

I wasn’t sure at this point where the card was going but I knew I wanted to use my Distress Oxide Espresso ink.

I decided to mask a line down the right hand edge of the card base and used an ink blending tool to apply the ink. I then used the same ink to stamp a sentiment from the stamp set.

I added some distress ink where the stamped image was going to be placed to ground the image then attached the image to complete the card keeping it clean and simple.

Thanks for dropping by. Take care and enjoy the rest of the week.

Elf Christmas card

Hello friends.

I was so thrilled to be selected to be part of the design team for Downland Crafts. I am really looking forward to working with their stamps and card making products.

Now I know it’s only August but the weeks are flying by quickly and the crafting community is starting to plan for Christmas.

Today I wanted to share with you my first card using the Downland Crafts stamp set We Three Elves

To start I used mowed lawn Distress Oxide ink to blend a portion of the card base. I used ‘purple tape’ to mask off the area I wanted to keep white.

I then Spritzed the inked area with water to add some texture.

Next I stamped out the elves using Memento tuxedo black ink on to copic friendly card. I currently use Xpress it blending card. I used my Copics to colour the images. Then cut them out using my Scan N Cut machine.

Next I stamped the sentiment on to the bottom of the green area of the card, (being sure to use a powder tool first) using ‘Emboss’ clear embossing stamp pad. I then sprinkled Ranger princess gold embossing powder over the stamped area and heated it with my heat tool.

I then attached the stamped images to the card. To finish I used a Spectrum Noir sparkle pen to add a bit of sparkle to the stars.

Take a look at the Downland Crafts website there are lots of great stamp sets to get you ready for Christmas card making. My favorites have to be the Christmas jumper and Christmas treats sets.

Take Care for now.

How photos of my card making have changed.

Hello. Today I thought I would share how I photograph my cards.

As I posted a card on Instagram this morning it made me think about these change from how I photographed my work when I first started a year ago to where I am now.

I use my phone to take all my photos. It is a Samsung S6 edge.

This is where I was a year ago

I started by taking close up photos of my cards. Then I moved to photos of the whole card with a plain background.

Next I moved to slightly different coloured backgrounds using coloured papers before starting to add small props.

I use large 12×12 papers for the backing and use props such as houseplants and candles for standing card photos. For flat photos I use the papers and add props such as pens, ink cubes, invitation flowers and anything I find that matches my colour scheme.

The light in the UK is not great and I hope to one day invest in a good daylight lamp to help with the photo lighting and shadows, especially in the winter months. I currently take my work outside or next to the patio doors where a lot of light comes in.

I am really happy with my progress over the past year. I feel like my crafting is much improved and I am more confident in adding props to my photos. It’s by no means perfect but I can see how much it has changed and I hope to improve further in the future.

Have a great day.

Dinosaur card

Hello friends. I hope you are enjoying the summer so far.

Today I am sharing the dino card I made this morning.

I started the card by die cutting 6 square frames from white cardstock using the Lawn Fawn die set called selfie frames.

I then took a white square card base and marked out where I wanted the frames to go. Once I had done that I masked the edges with post it notes and used distress oxide inks to blend the three square backgrounds.

The background blends are Distress Oxide salty ocean with twisted citron, squeezed lemonade with carved pumpkin, picked raspberry with candied apple.

Once the background squares were blended I layed down three frames and attached them with liquid adhiesive and then repeated again with another frame on top of each to give the frames some depth.

Next I used Copic markers to colour three dinosaurs to match the backgrounds, then die cut them and attached one to the centre of each frame and added a rwar speech bubble.

I stamped a sentiment on each frame using Lawn Fawn inks to match the colours in the frames.

To complete the card I added some small gems and some twine with a bow. I hope you like it.

Clean and simple Birthday card.

Hello friends. I hope you are well. We are in the middle of a heat wave here in the UK and have been blessed with some beautiful sunny days. I hope it lasts into the summer holidays so I can enjoy it when I have the summer off work!

Today I thought I would share this card I made as part of the daily marker 30 day challenge. I chose a few random critter images to create a quick card.

I started by stamping and colouring the doughnuts stack from Mama Elephant with Copics. I then chose some critters from Avery Elle (the duck and bunny) Lawn Fawn (the chick) and My Favorite Things (the shark) and coloured them too.

I found some sprinkle paper in my stash which seemed to fit the doughnuts well so I cut a thick strip and attached this to the card base to run along the bottom of the card.

I lined up the critters and doughnuts and attached them using a tape runner. Using a Copic C0 marker I gave a shadow to each of the images to ground them.

To finish I used the Happy Birthday sentiment from Lawn Fawn and added a pink gem each side to conplete the card.

I hope you like it. Thanks for dropping by.

Instagram is where you can find all my latest work.

Teacher cards.

Hello friends. I hope you are well. They weather is finally on the up and we are having some nice warm sunny days now.

Todat I thought I would share two teacher cards I made this week. Only four weeks left at school here before the six week summer break. Being a pre-school teacher myself I am looking forward to the break and lots if crafty time between keeping my own three kids entertained!

This is the first card. I used lots of different brands to create this. I used a free download paper from Downland Crafts. I printed it on to white Bristol cardstock then trimmed to size and attached to a square white card base.

I then coloured images from the Mama Elephant stamp set Page Huggers, using Copic markers. I die cut them with the coordinating dies.

Next I used stamps from Sugar Pea Designs to add the sentiment and the A+. To finish off I attached the images and die cut a heart shape to complete.

This is the second card. I went for a clean and simple design this time.

I stamped and coloured images from the Mama Elephant new release stamp set called Bookworm. All the images are from the set. Next I used the teacher die from Heffy Doodle. I die cut it twice, once in red and once in white and layered them.

To finish I attached all the images to a square card base

I hope you like the cards. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week ahead.
