Good Morning Card

Today I am sharing a card with a textured background. I made this card for the stencil techniques class from Altenew Academy.

I wanted to step away from blending inks over a stencil which would be my usual go to technique.

I started by selecting the ‘feeling dotty’ stencil from Altenew. I attached the stencil to a piece of Neenah 80lb cardstock using purple tape. I made sure the card was slightly bigger than my card base to allow me to trim the edges off as the paste I use can be a bit messy!

I took my Cosmic Shimmer paste and mixed it with two different colours of Distress Ink, Broken China and Twisted Citron.

Once it was nicely mixed I used a spatula to spread the paste over the stencil. Covering half the card in each shade and mixing them in the middle. Once I was happy the stencil was evenly covered I removed the stencil and placed the card panel aside to dry.

At this point you should immediately wash the stencil and spatula plus anywhere else the paste has gone because the paste does not come off anything easily once it is dried on.

Next I worked on the plant image. I first stamped the leaf image from the Altenew stamp set ‘potted plants’ using Altenew ‘forest glades’ crisp ink. I then took a pot image from the stamp set and stamped it in black ink making sure I masked the stalk of the plant with a small piece of tape before stamping. I coloured the pot with Copic markers B00, BG000 and BG0000.

I stamped the ‘good morning’ sentiment from the stamp set and cut this and the plant out with my Scan N Cut machine.

To finish the card trimmed the edges of the background panel and adhered the plant and sentiment to the card panel using Gina K connect glue and adhered the panel to my card base.

I love how it turned out and will definitely use textured backgrounds more in the future with my stencils.

Until next time.
